The Cyclades

February 29, 2008 – 4:21 pm

The Cyclades are located in the Aegean Sea, being a group of Greek islands and also one of the ones that constitutes the Greek Archipelago.

The Cyclades fascinate the guests with their pitoresque landscapes, by a brightly white, in the middle of which there are asymmetrical settlements, narrow streets and many churches.

The Archipelago has 38 islands, each one with a surface no bigger than 400 km, but also a multitude of little islands.

Only 24 islands are populated, most of the little islands being inhabited.

The Cyclades form a separate administrative area, having the capital at Ermoupolis, on Siros Isle. The different islands are separated one of the others by very narrow gorges. The largest one measures no more than 37 km.

There is an anual invasion of European tourists, thirsty of sun, which separates the islands into 2 categories: the rich and the poor ones.

If Mikonos, Ios, Santorini and Paros can`t complain about a lack of interest from the travel lovers, Anafi and Kimolos has left almost wildly.

Cyprus is situated in the eastern Mediterranean, being the third-largest island in the Mediterranean and one of the most popular tourist destinations.cyprusakamascoast35a_0704gal.jpgEven if Cyprus has always been inhabited by greeks, it never been Helen in the true sense of the word. Situated too far from Greece mother, the isle is near to the Turkey Coast an, geographically speaking, it belongs to the Neat East.

There can be found columns from Antic Rome, cathedrals which are faithful copies of French ones and also mosques like those from Istanbul. All this because in the history of Cyprus have passed Persians, Egyptians, Byzantines, Romans, Frenchs, Turks and all of them have destroyed the culture they found on the isle, replacing it by their culture.

More and more tourist are fascinated by Cyprus`s charm: the sun brigths all the year, there are confortable hotels, delicious food, hospitable people, beautiful beaches and monuments.Though, this idyllic atmosphere is afected by the cicatrices of the past, Cyprus being devided into the North half (Turkey) and the South one (Helen).

There are some legends about Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. It says that she has born from the foam of the sea, on the rocky coasts of Cyprus.
